I can tell that we are gonna be friends.

Greetings, friends and lovers.

I’m sure, like me, you’ve met friends and lost friends along the way. For this reason or that reason, you’ve just lost touch. And I’m sure, like me, there are those friends, that even with time passing, memories with them still warm your heart.

For me, those friendships have usually been with those that have allowed me to be me. The kind of friendship that allowed me to explore my creative side and didn’t judge me or look at me weird when I played around. On the contrary, they joined in on my fun.

It’s so enjoyable for me to actively use my imagination and run wild with wild ideas. I just feel that so many people walk around in the doldrums or just dead inside, really.

Mostly, but not entirely, I’ve come to realize that those people that I’ve connected with, in this way, have usually been pen pals. Or plainly, online friends. Online, through language and with friends, I had so much fun roleplaying and storytelling. I can’t tell you how many times, my friends and I, toyed with Harry Potter RPGs, for instance. My love of storytelling had an outlet, and I wasn’t alone. It just tickled the right part of my brain in the best way. But, there were also the rare occasions I actually got to have fun with imagination live, IRL.

I miss you Lassie!

It’s one of the best gifts I’ve ever gotten. Why? Because she saw me.

The picture above is of a gum box with an adorable note from an old co-worker. As you can see, it’s been a while. I’ve kept it all this time because – not only do I keep every special letter I’ve ever received – it’s from one of those few precious people I’ve met along the way that joined me, in imagination. Lassie was awesome. She made work go by so quickly and fun and went along with whatever crazy story we’d come up with. She literally took an empty gum box from the register and made a guitar out of it with rubber bands and gave it to me as a birthday gift.ย It’s one of the best gifts I’ve ever gotten. Why? Because she saw me and used her imagination, her self-expression. She showed me herself, too.

I wish Lassie so much love. I hope she’s happy and healthy wherever she is. And just like her, I’ve met so many other amazing people, that, unfortunately, I’ve had to lose along the way. But I keep their memories with me. I’ve never felt more seen than when someone saw me creatively. They saw what I was capable of and not only witnessed it, but joined me!

The best times in my life have been with those that saw my imagination and ran with me for the ride.

What I wish for you is this, my lovely friends: find someone that sees you in FULL. Someone that not only sees you but celebrates WITH you, who you are. The best times in my life have been with those that saw my imagination and ran with me for the ride.

Imagination is not just for children.

Find someone to tetherball with.

Pen Pals!

Incidentally, I have created a Pen Pal Whatsapp Community. Given my love of writing, especially handwriting, I thought it only right that everyone should have the opportunity to experience what I have experienced through love of language. It’s a chance to get to know someone (even yourself!) – just through words! It could be fun to create magical – maybe even decorated – letters that we could share with one another on a regular basis. Don’t ya think?
