Hello, October

Good morning lovers. October has arrived and so has my newest post. 🍁🍂🪻

October 5th, 2025

I’ve recently come to understand the myth of the witch much more than I have before. I’ve come to realize, it wasn’t just fear or misunderstanding of the unknown, but fear and misunderstanding of powerful women. Although, of course, I know many a woman has been villainized and harmed for doing something as simple as speaking up, I now understand the nuance of calling a woman a witch.

Witches were burned, drowned, and brutally harmed just so we could forget their name, their power, but yet we haven’t. Witches live on and are still celebrated by some because we danced out from the flames, we emerged from the water cleansed. Reborn. Anew.

So what I tell ye witches and warlocks is this: burn. Burn alive this month, so you can arise free. Free from burden, free from toxicity, and free from what no longer serves. Yoga with Adriene has been scheduling Breath of Fire practice a bunch this month, and honestly, it helps. Stir the fire in your core, so that your soul alights with passion and fire again.

If you’re interested in Breath of Fire..

Being a witch means, not just surviving the flames, but initiating them.

The stars are blazing like rebel diamonds cut out of the sun

Can you read my mind?

  1. Oh, I absolutely loved the witch part of this! 🧙‍♀️🔥 It really made me think about how easily someone like me could have been labelled a witch centuries ago. 😂
If I had lived somewhere in the woods, happily keeping to myself because people irritate the hell out of me, collecting herbs instead of running to the village doctor every time I had the sniffles, picking up harmless snakes and letting jumping spiders walk across my hand, I suspect the local villagers would have had some very interesting things to say about me! 🤣🤣🤣
    “She’s talking to the spiders.”
    “She picked up a snake!”
“She knows which herbs to use!”
    “WITCH!”
And I’d probably be standing there going, “For fuck’s sake, it’s a jumping spider! Come and have a look at it!” 😂🕷️
I do think there is something fascinating about the way the image of the witch has changed over time, though. A woman who lived differently, knew about plants and nature, kept to herself or simply refused to fit neatly into what was expected of her could easily become something to fear or control.
And then I got to the yoga part. 😂 I have to admit, I normally find most yoga videos rather boring, and some of them seem to forget that not all of us are twenty years old and capable of throwing ourselves into complicated positions and doing endless sit-ups! 🤣
But I watched Adriene’s video and I have to say, she is absolutely adorable. I loved the way she explained the Breath of Fire, even though I was sitting there thinking, “Okay… I’m trying to understand what the hell you’re doing with your breathing now.” 😂
I still don’t quite get it, but I can see why people enjoy it, and perhaps if I ever actually get the hang of what I’m supposed to be doing, I might enjoy it too. Who knows? 🤣
Although if I do attempt some of those positions, I may need somebody standing by to pull me back up afterwards! 😂
And if all else fails, I’ll put on my pointy hat, grab my twig broom and go dancing with Fred Astaire instead. 🧙‍♀️🧹💃❤️

    1. I like Adriene’s flexibility. She often gives you options for the poses or simply reminds you that you can modify as needed until maybe one day it’s not. I can certainly attest to having found more space over time 🙂

Yes, we were certainly taught in school how rumors and myths and legends would unfortunately lead many a woman to a tragic end, but I see it even more now as a stifling of power. A need to suppress – like history has always shown us – of power. Even today.

      1. Yes, I really liked that about Adriene! 😊 The fact that she gives you options and reminds you that you can modify the poses makes such a difference. I think that’s probably what would make me more willing to keep trying rather than sitting there thinking, “Well, that’s bloody impossible!” 😂 And I do like the idea that with time you can find more space and things that once seemed impossible might eventually become possible.

And yes, I think that’s what struck me most about the witch part too. It wasn’t simply the rumours and myths themselves, but the way those things could be used to suppress women who didn’t fit neatly into what was expected of them. And sadly, that desire to control power doesn’t seem to be something we’ve completely outgrown. ❤️

      3. 😂 Ohhh, I think that answer says rather a lot all by itself. No further evidence required! 🤣
