Dial Q for Quitting

V for Vendetta was a mid movie (to me!) but it did help me settle a debate:

I’m quitting my job.

I no longer feel the need to be held hostage by a job holding the sword of my paycheck over my head. During this time away from work – which has involved advocating for myself almost as much as I was at work – I’ve been able to see clearer. I realized that even though I wasn’t Stockholm Syndromed, I did want to be free like Natalie Portman.

I’ve always been so afraid of losing my job that I’ve put up with unnecessary bullshit from people, but. Not. Anymore.

Because I will quit my job even though I don’t have anything else lined up right now. Don’t worry darling. I am not without a money reservoir, but I am fresh out of masochism. So I  will quit this toxic, suffocating job after two years because I’m done.

Done with weaponized incompetence.

Done with corporate red tape.

Done with toxicity.

Done with targeting.

Done with bullying.

Done dealing with bullshit, corporate inhumanity.

So I am quitting without a backup. But that’s okay. Because I deserve more. You deserve more. We deserve more than bullshit corporations squeezing every molecule from us without even a modicum of your investment returned.

No. I know it isn’t always possible to do this and I sympathize greatly because I also know society has not been constructed for us all to win, but I’m going to tell you this as a woman, as an American living in 2026: DUMP THAT JOB ASAP.  Break-ups are hard. Divorce is hard. But I wouldn’t tell you to stay in an abusive relationship until you find a better man/woman would I?

Scratch isn’t easy either. I know that. You won’t catch me making/cooking from scratch – I just learned pasta… But as I said earlier this month:

EMBRACE UNCERTAINTY.

And that’s what I’m going to do. Because I can promise you as someone who has tried very hard and imperfectly to do the right thing all the time: uncertainty doesn’t care. Uncertainty can strike whether you’re right or wrong ( ask Job) because as I’ve also mentioned before: 99/1, 1/99. (I talk about this in more detail here: https://stoprightnowandreadmyblog.blog/2026/02/15/happy-valentines-day-lovers/ ) We got 99% control over our internal world and 1% control our external: so control your internal world.

Wish me luck readers. I’m trusting that 99% to come through in the uncertainty because I’m taking care of what I can control: me.

So the rest will align eventually. I hope.

It’s not like we know either way anyway...
